Alex Frey

Technical Designer

I am a technical game designer who prides himself being well versed in a wide variety of professional industry tools. I have been developing games and graphic art since high school, and studied at Champlain College to earn my Bachelor's of Science in Game Design. During my four years of school at Champlain I learned from both current and veteran industry professionals, and have worked by myself and within teams to develop games.

In addition to my training in Game Design, I also earned my ScrumMaster and Product Owner certifications from the Scrum Alliance's very own Clint Kieth. I was glad to utilize these two skills during my time as Lead Designer on my senior capstone game Keeper. It was my first real foray into the managerial side of game development and I found I quite enjoyed the challenge and responsibility of running a team with a shared vision. The experience was invaluable and I learned so much about not only the agile method, but myself as a leader.

I find games have so much more to offer than just pointing and shooting, and I feel my true calling is to help broaden gaming's sphere past its usual recreational applications and into the uncharted territory of education, simulation, and more.

Some of my work has received recognition within the gaming community, most notably when my team won two awards at the MassDiGI 2018 Game Challenge for our game Keeper. We place first within our category of "Serious Games" and then went on to win the "People's Choice Award" which was voted on by everyone who competed.

Gamasutra wrote an article on the event and included a quote from me as well as a small piece on Keeper which you can read here. I was glad to have even participated, and so winning was a wonderful bonus to reflect all the hard work the team had put into the game.
